If You Want to Get Somone’s Attention… Try This Idea.
By Larry Benet on Mar 24, 2008 in More Clients
There is a big event coming up, and I know they are thinking about having me speak at the event. This person who is putting on the event is a very high profile individual and has many of the most famous names in the world of marketing and entrepreneurship speaking at his event.
So today I pulled out some heavy artillery.
I sent a coconut with my letter on why they should have me present at the event.
The Coconut Mailer that I sent today:

I then put a little sticky note on top of the coconut that said “YOU WOULD HAVE TO BE NUTS NOT TO HAVE LARRY BENET SPEAK AT YOUR EVENT.”
I figured if they are thinking about having me speak at the event, well I want to give them as much to think about as possible, and get their attention.
I put the benefits of what his customers would get from having me speak, the benefits the promoter would get in having me speak, and I put a bunch of testimonials all inside the coconut.
What is the most outside the Box mailer you have sent someone that worked.
Post your comments and the person who has the best idea will receive my CD on How to Connect With Anyone and Build Relationships at The Speed of Light, as well as be entered as a finalist to win a ticket to my $3000 Connection Mastery event on June 6-8th http://www.larrybenet.com

Several years ago, when my book Transformation Thinking came out, I wanted to create a marketing piece that was attention getting. I met with my assistant and a creative friend in the advertising business for a brainstorming session. Using the principles from the book, we developed a very unique brochure that opened in the shape of a puzzle with was a twist on a bar game used with tooth picks that were used to create the design of the puzzle. Instead of sending tooth picks with the package, we sent a match box that doubled as my business card. The outside of the brochure was sealed with a sticker with the instructions “Do NOT open” (but which included another instruction to see the other side with the puzzle challenge presented). Each page of the brochure opened to slowly reveal the answers to the puzzle as more information was revealed about me and my program. I received comments for many years after that from people who held on to the piece or the matches (which had NO striker so they wouldn’t be deposable).

I am launching a very high end vacation destination club - http://www.CartellaBella.com with only 24 Founders Circle memberships at $10 million, 100 Founders memberships at $1 million and unlimited standard memberships. The Founders Circle will be marketed to the top 500 richest people. I am planning on using a “Mission Impossible” themed mailer with at small video player that will give the recipient their mission with audio/video. As their are only 24 memberships they will be instructed to either accept the invitation or to refer a friend as membership is by referral only. A variation of this would just be sending a digital video picture frame with a picture slide show of our club properties (multi-million dollar vacation homes including private islands)

Dear Larry,
I’m certain you’ve heard them all, but here is a true story. My brother-in-law has an extremely successful mortgage company that anyone would love to work for. One day attached to a resume was a box of 10 100 Grand candy bars with the additional note, “Here’s 1 million reasons to give me an interview”. He interviewed her, and was so impressed that he hired her.
