The Power of Gratitude
By Larry Benet on Nov 23, 2007 in Business
Thanksgiving is a time when friends and family come together for food and fun.
Oprah Winfrey just had her “favorite things” show, where she shared with her audience some of her favorite things.
I like to take the Thanksgiving holiday to reach out to people who I want to thank for making a difference in my life.
It could be in the form of a brief call, an e mail, a personal note or even a text. It makes the person receiving the message of gratitude feel very appreciated, and makes you feel even better.
I would encourage you to reach out to the people in your life that you are most grateful for, and tell them how much you appreciate them.
Life is Precious. One of my friends, Jason Oman, less then 5 weeks ago was in my house helping me work on a speech I had to give, and then 24 hours later found himself in the hospital fighting for his life after suffering a brain aneurysm.
The doctors told us he had a 30% chance of full recovery.
I am grateful for the doctors who helped him and the many people who prayed for him. I just had dinner with him the other day as he is out of the hospital and recovering.
I wanted to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving, and tell you how much I appreciate you.
Have a great day… wherever you are in the world!
Until we connect again.

What better place to post a thankful comment than under the topic of “Gratitude”.
After listening to you talking with Ben Mack about Networking and Relationships, I wanted to say thanks for the valuable ground you covered in such a relatively short space of time.
Responding to your tip about blog comments as a means of showing appreciation I duly found your blog - and this more-than-coincidental section on the Power of Gratitude.
I must admit though, I was rather surprised by the lack of response from my fellow listeners. Maybe there’s a lot more appreciative but shy people out there who have been waiting for someone to break the ice. So on everyone’s behalf - Thanks Larry (and Ben too for hosting).
Thanks not only for the advice, but also for stories and comments that had some wake up calls embedded in them.
For example, I cringed with thoughts of wasted opportunity when you were talking about connecting with Branson. A few years ago I was very close to referral and/or personal introduction. And blew it - through mistiming and embarassed lack of follow-up.
I have no doubt that, through your training, you will help many people avoid similar expensive mistakes and benefit greatly from how they Connect.
